Sunday School
Children and youth are loved at Asbury Church; they are visible, welcomed and active. From the crib room which serves children under the age of four, to the confirmation program for teenagers, we seek to serve the spiritual and social needs of young people. We have a dedicated, caring, and loving staff of teachers. Classes for young people are held during the worship hour. Children attend the opening of worship and are excused for classes after the Children’s Message. Parents are welcome to observe and sit in on classes.
Several times a year at the young people go to the Methodist Home to greet and to sing for the residents.
The church has a detailed Safe Sanctuaries Policy which seeks to ensure that children and youth are safe and properly supervised in every aspect of the church’s ministry. .
We use United Methodist Sunday school curriculum, which gives young people a grounding in the basics of the Bible and Christian faith, stressing the love of God for people and for creation.
Children may be registered for Sunday School at any time through the church office or on Sunday mornings.
On regular Sundays of 2010-11: Sunday School teachers and Assistants will meet the children by the side door of the Sanctuary following the sharing of the Peace (so that your child can participate in this important Christian community bonding experience) and gather to go to classes.
During the Sunday School Opening Worship, each child will have the opportunity to participate in singing, sharing, and a children’s offering. Offering envelopes will be provided to each child at the parents’ request by contacting the church office. At the end of Sunday School classes, teachers will escort the children to Weyand Hall to rejoin their parents at the Coffee Hour. PLEASE NOTE: This does not applied to the Crib Room, where parents will pick up their children at the close of worship, before attending Coffee Hour.
Regarding the Crib Room: a procedure was established in which one of the ushers will remain outside the side door entrance where they can be notified by the crib room staff in the event that a child needs the attention of a parent or guardian.

Child Attendance: Please let us know when your child will be absent. For the best possible learning experience to take place, regular attendance is important. We understand that families sometimes have special circumstances, but we encourage you to do the best you can to encourage your child’s regular attendance. To assist our teachers in their preparation for Sunday morning classes, it is important to be able to anticipate the number of students in each class. Therefore, a card is enclosed with a phone number and Email address for each child’s teacher. Parents/guardians are asked to please inform the teacher in advance of the child’s absence from Sunday school for that day. If you are calling on Sunday morning, please call the office.
Parent/Guardian Attendance & contact information:
It is AUMC policy that children attending Sunday School classes have a parent or guardian on site during the weekly Worship Service and Sunday School time, unless other arrangements for a parental/guardian back up have been formally established in writing with the church office and Sunday School staff in advance.
Asbury is a Safe Sanctuaries facility, and we have an obligation to uphold the safety of each member of Sunday School.
