Ash Wednesday comes early this year. On Wednesday February 6th we will have two services: one at 12 noon, and a second service at 7:30 PM.

Wednesday, February 13: A special program led by Rev. Mary Ellen Summerville“Introduction to Focusing: A Practice for Emotional Healing and Spiritual Growth”

Meal 6:30 – 7:30 PM Program 7:30 – 9:30 PM

Would you like to make better decisions? Heal old hurts? Unleash more creativity? Feel more spiritually and emotionally alive? Sense where God is leading you? Focusing teaches us how to “focus” or direct our awareness to an inner knowing that we can feel in our bodies. Many of us have already experienced this knowing when we’re aware of a “gut feeling,” or when an insight suddenly flashes into our minds. Focusing helps us learn how to gain access to this deeper wisdom on a more regular basis. First developed by psychologist, Dr. Eugene Gendlin, focusing also helps us to be more attuned to the “still, small voice” (I Kings 19:12) of the Spirit that speaks to our souls.
Join us for an evening where you’ll experience some of the basics of Focusing. A follow-up six week course will be offered at Asbury in April and May for those who want to learn more.

“I’ll be doing a reading from the manuscript which I hope to get published, followed by a discussion. The stories include those from my time as a chaplain to the morgue at Ground Zero, my hospice work, and the journey through breast cancer. I offer these stories with the hope that they will be helpful to others who may be facing their own personal difficulties and traumas. The discussion may center around how to maintain faith in times of crisis, how to see beauty even in the midst of a storm.” –– Andie Raynor

Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration

An interfaith Thanksgiving celebration will be held Tuesday, November 20th at 7:30pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crestwood. Everyone is invited regardless of church, synagogue or other religious affiliation.A community Thanksgiving chorus is being assembled to sing at this service and all interested choirs and individuals are welcome to participate. Temporary Closure for “Rags to Riches”

“Rags to Riches,” the thrift shop at Asbury United Methodist church is temporarily close while repairs are made to Weyand Hall where the shop is located.Established in 1998 and effectively managed by Rita Zearfoss, “Rags to Riches” has thrived due to the quality of clothing and bric-a-brac offered. Advent Celebration to be Enjoyed by One and All!Saturday, December 2, 2006Advent is the four week period before Christmas. The word advent means come to and it refers to that fact that at Christmas God has indeed come to us in the form of a weak, helpless baby. We know him as Jesus. During the four weeks of Advent we prepare ourselves as individuals and families to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child. Our church will celebrate the onset of this event in the form of a traditional multi-faceted evening of family activity. It is a way to kick-off a super start to a most joyful season. All church members and friends are invited to participate. The following is a schedule of activities:4:00 to 5:00 PM:Make an advent wreath with your family. Ugly Quilts for Outreach

An opportunity for as many as are interested to put together “ugly quilts. ” No great skills are needed – just people of all ages — guys and gals — wanting to work as a team to construct something that will make a difference for a homeless person. We’ll gather in room 205 for some instruction and then get our hands busy with the fun and simple task of construction. A light lunch will be served. These quilts are basically cost-free in that clean items are recycled into something unique and useful….so if you have any “cast off” sweatshirts, sweaters, bedspreads, etc. please bring them along. AST Fiorello! Auditions Start

Auditions for Fiorello! which will be produced in February by Asbury Summer Theatre will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 7-10pm and Saturday, December 2nd from 11am-4pm. in Weyand Hall at Asbury.Written by composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, Fiorello won the Pulitzer Prize for the best musical of 1959; it tells the story of New York City’s colorful mayor, Fiorello H. LaGuardia.Those auditioning should bring sheet music (in the desired key) for a ballad and an up-tempo song in the classic Broadway style; an accompanist will be provided. If possible bring a resume and photo. Minimum age for auditioning is 16.John Orefice will direct Asbury’s Fiorello! and DOnna Ventarola will be music director, with Particia Arenson as choreographer.
